This environmentally sensitive project was in the works for over 27 years. The upper York Creek Ecosystem Restoration & Aquatic Habitat Enhancement Project presented many challenges. These challenges included removing the 100 year old York Creek Dam, working within naturally occuring asbestos areas and removing over 20,000 cy of sediment. Log structures were installed in the creek as sediment traps to create steelhead spawning habitat, these structures had to be strategically placed in areas where it was difficult for equipment to access. A creek bypass system was installed for creek dewatering to facilitate all construction. Due to the dam being removed, an extensive fish ladder was installed. This project was completed one month early and within budget. To view more of this project, please visit here.
